When it comes to dryer safety and efficiency, most homeowners think about cleaning out the lint trap or the vent line behind the dryer. But there’s one critical issue we’ve seen over and over again in The Villages, and it’s one most people never think to check.
After a roof replacement, it’s common for dryer vents to become disconnected in the attic. This can turn into a serious safety hazard if left unaddressed.
Here’s what we often find during inspections:
When a new roof is installed, the roofing crew typically replaces the roof vent, also known as the gooseneck. That part is expected. The problem happens when the interior duct that connects to the roof vent is not properly reattached afterward.
Instead of pushing moisture and lint safely outside, the dryer exhaust is now dumping directly into the attic.
We’ve also found full separations between duct sections inside the attic. In some homes, one piece of ducting has come completely loose from the next. These disconnections are easy to miss because they’re hidden under insulation or tucked behind beams. Unless someone climbs into the attic to look, you may never know it’s there.
A disconnected vent line means all that hot, moist air, along with fine lint particles, is being blown into your attic.
Over time, this creates:
If your dryer seems to be working, this issue can go completely unnoticed. That’s what makes it so dangerous.
This is where you would insert photos of actual disconnected ductwork found during inspections, with captions such as:
These are not rare cases. We find problems like these regularly during full-system inspections in The Villages.
Most dryer vent cleaning services stop at the dryer or the outside wall. They rarely check the attic, and almost never access the roof. That is why disconnected vents can go undetected for years, even after a cleaning has been done.
At Lint Dragon, we take a full-system approach. If you suspect a problem, or if your home recently had a roof replaced, we strongly recommend an Advanced Cleaning or Dragon’s Eye Package, which includes airflow testing and attic checks when necessary.
We’re familiar with common attic layouts and roof configurations in The Villages and surrounding communities. We come prepared to solve these hidden problems and restore your dryer system to full working condition.
If your roof has been replaced in the last few years and you’re noticing longer dry times or strange heat buildup, this might be the cause. Don’t wait for a fire hazard to develop in your attic.
